The Witcher 3 – How to Save

The Witcher 3 has somewhat of a penalizing system when you die.  You’ll lose all of your progress between where you died at and the last time you saved.  So it’s important to save your game manually or change the settings so that the game saves often.

How to Change Auto Save Frequency

There is an auto-save feature in the game and it will save every 10 minutes by default.  You can change the auto save interval in The Witcher 3 by heading into the options menus.  These can be accessed by pressing the – button on the Switch.  Once in this menu head to “Gameplay” and the scroll down to the Autosave Interval option and set it for something shorter if you find yourself losing progress often.

You can also manually save assuming you aren’t in some sort of combat scenario.  Simply head into the options menus by pressing the – button on the Switch and then select the “Save Game” option.  This will allow you to save your game in a save slot of your choosing.
