In some of the strangest news to come out of Gamescom 2017, the Assassin’s Creed and Final Fantasy XV development teams have announced an unexpected collaboration. Get ready for some Easter eggs and crossover events to take place in both franchises.

The official post from Ubisoft’s blog states that this idea began almost three years ago at an informal meeting during the Tokyo Game Show. The teams’ expression of mutual admiration eventually coalesced into this collaboration today. Easter eggs have popped up in the Final Fantasy XV trailer from last November and recent Assassin’s Creed Origins trailers that signaled the unofficial start of the references, but there was no announcement about any official partnership until now.

On August 30, Final Fantasy XV players who obtained the Dream Egg from the Moogle Chocobo Carnival will be gifted an Assassin outfit for Noctis. Afterward, a free Assassin’s Festival DLC for Final Fantasy XV will drop on August 31. As described by Ubisoft, the town of Lestallum will transform itself with banners and signs to signal its beginning. Players will be able to participate in new activities, like those shown in the trailer below. Abilities are enabled allowing Noctis to traverse the town in true Assassin’s Creed fashion.

Since Assassin’s Creed Origins has yet to release, no details were offered as to what players can expect from this collaboration in Origins itself. I imagine it will feature similar items like Final Fantasy XV-themed outfits and possibly fun events centered around the Final Fantasy universe.
