There’s a new Battlefield game coming next year in Battlefield: Hardline, and EA has also confirmed Battlefield 5 for the year after. Where Hardline will be an offshoot for the series, one that focuses on cops and robbers, the 2016 Battlefield release will be a return to form.

Speaking at the 2014 UBS Global Technology Conference, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen confirmed that the game would return to its military shooter roots. In speaking about Battlefield 2016, Jorgensen claims to have already laid eyes on the new game, and “That will be a return to a Battlefield military-style game,” though Jorgensen didn’t offer any other details according to a report from Gamespot.

This past summer, EA announced Battlefield: Hardline to a mixed reception from fans and then subsequently delayed the game that was slated to arrive this year. EA moved the release to the end of the first quarter of next-year, and smart money would probably be to bet on Battlefield 5 to arrive in holiday 2016.

Battlefield 4, a game still going strong over a year later, just recently received its last downloadable content pack in the Final Stand DLC. Final Stand is available for Battlefield Premium subscribers right now.
