Rumors of a new Borderlands game that surfaced earlier this week have been confirmed. Gearbox Software and 2K have announced Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, being co-developed by Gearbox Software and 2K Australia, available on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC this year!

The game is set between Borderlands and Borderlands 2, has four playable classes fighting alongside Handsome Jack. Players will witness Jack’s transformation into the ruthless tyrant he becomes in Borderlands 2.

Gearbox outlines a number of new features that will be tied into the “shoot and loot gameplay”, which include low-gravity environments, oxygen-powered jetpack combat, Cryo elemental damage type, laser weapons, and new vehicles.

Four new but familiar playable characters will be introduced in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. Athena the Gladiator, Wilhelm the Enforcer, Nisha the Lawbringer, and Claptrap the Fragtrap. Look for a release date for Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel as we head into the summer, and closer to the game’s “fall” release window.
