Fans of the Planet of the Apes franchise are seeing how their beloved series is slowly expanding its presence on gaming platforms, with 20th Century Fox announcing today the release of a VR title based on the recent film trilogy that will immerse players in a future where a new form of highly-intelligent apes are taking over the world. The game is played as a first-person shooter, with players taking control of an ape who has escaped from a human research facility.
The story is set between the first two films of the reboot trilogy, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, exploring the exact moment when humans are getting decimated by a mutant disease created in a laboratory.
Here is the official synopsis of the game: “Five years since its outbreak, the Simian Flu has wiped out half of humanity and left other primates…evolved. Now at the crossroads of two species’ destinies, you are an ape with advanced intelligence, captured and held prisoner in a heavily guarded scientific facility as mankind desperately searches for a cure. Your mission: confront human aggression as you climb, jump and shoot through the chaos of an apocalyptic world to escape with your fellow apes and return home to Caesar.”
The game is actually the first project from a new studio from the company, named Foxnet VR Studio. Earlier this year, The Imaginati Studios released a story-focused game compatible with PlayLink for PS4, called Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier.
Crisis on the Planet of the Apes will launch on April 3 for PSVR, Oculus Rift, and HTC Vive, for a price of $14.99. Watch the trailer below.
