One of the big surprises coming from Gamecom was the announcement that DayZ would be heading to the Playstation 4 at some point in the future. Given that there was no mention of the game at Microsoft’s conference it seemed like Sony might have gotten an exclusivity deal for the popular zombie survival game. However, according to a report from Eurogamer, while speaking with DayZ creator Dean “Rocket” Hall they were told that the game would not be a PS4 exclusive title leaving open the possibility of release on Xbox One or other platforms.
DayZ is definitely going to be a multi-platform title – that’s the firm vision from Bohemia’s standpoint.
In fact, Rocket was adamant that the plan from developer Bohemia Interactive was for DayZ to be available on various systems. “DayZ is definitely going to be a multi-platform title – that’s the firm vision from Bohemia’s standpoint. But we’ll announce what all the other platforms are as we get to that point.” Given that DayZ is notorious for how taxing it can be on PC it is likely the only other possible platform for release would be Xbox One. Although I wouldn’t rule out a bare bones version hitting PS3 and Xbox 360 if the game were to release soon.
Unfortunately we currently don’t have any hints as to when DayZ will be releasing. The game is still in Early Access on PC, meaning a final version of the game won’t be ready for a while. Any release on console within the next year would probably hinge on whether there was an Early Access like service. Rocket continued by saying “There’s been no decision made about when DayZ releases, and that would depend on what options Sony provides. I don’t think they’ve said anything about… Everyone’s said they’re thinking about it [Early Access releases].”
DayZÂ is currently only available on PC via Steam’s Early Access program.
