Digimon Survive Brings The Spirit Of The Anime’s First Season To All Platforms In 2019

It’s been almost 20 years since the original Digimon Adventure introduced fans to the Digital World, and come 2019, fans will be able to experience it first-hand with the arrival of Digimon Survive on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.

Digimon Survive (which is not the title Media.Vision is working on) makes a departure from the futuristic setting established by the more recent Digimon Story titles and goes back to basics, having players experience the same world that Taichi “Tai” Kamiya and his friends did on that fateful summer back in 1999.

Players will take control of a brand-new group of teenagers, led by Takuma Momozuka, who get lost on a school camping trip and wind up in a mysterious new world rife with monsters and danger.

As one might expect with a title that has “Survive” in it, the group’s journey back home will be a perilous one. Battles will be strategy-based, taking place on a 2D grid, and your decisions both in battle and out of it will determine how your digimon allies evolve, as well as the final ending (judging from this, it seems possible for there to be an ending where some or even all of your friends don’t make it back home).

To be clear, this is not the next Digimon Story. An interview with producer Kazumasa Habu from late last year already confirmed that another such game was in development alongside Hacker’s Memory. Based on what was said, the new game will be telling a whole-new story while HM was just meant to tell another side of a pre-existing one.

At any rate, Digimon Survive will finally give players the Digimon Adventure experience that we craved for all these years. Here’s to hoping it lives up to expectations.
