Falcom has announced today that they plan to release the next chapter of the acclaimed RPG series The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel on PlayStation 4. At the same time, it has also confirmed ports of Trails of Cold Steel and Trails of Cold Steel II, which until now they had only been available on PS3, PSVita and PC in the case of the first entry. These titles are all expected to be out in Japan during the company’s current fiscal year ending September 2018.
The announcement was made as part of the company’s financial briefing. When talking about upcoming releases, the report says: “In the next term, we plan to release the latest entry in the The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel series for home console, PlayStation 4. Additionally, we plan to release The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel and The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II for the same home console, PlayStation 4.”
The third entry in the series, Trails of Cold Steel III, was released for PS4 this past September, when it topped the Japanese sales chart. The game kept the same numbers the series used to have on PS3, but it seemed like the PSVita audience was not willing to move to a home console. Perhaps Falcom’s plans to take the whole series to PS4 might make it more appealing. The company has still not given a release date for Trails of Cold Steel III in North America and Europe.
