Rockstar Games has been pushing out new content to GTA Online at a ridiculous pace since launch. What was a simple online open world has turned into a incredible playspace with a multitude of activities to partake in. This content has also made a big impact to the bottom line for Take Two Interactive.
So what happens when Rockstar Games launches Red Dead Redemption 2? Will this content dry up for GTA Online? Not according to Take Two CEO Strauss Zelnick. Apparently Take Two and Rockstar have no plans to slow or stop content for GTA Online once Red Dead Redemption finally releases.
Zelnick told investors in a recent conference call that the projects are completely separate and that there is no reason why both games cannot coexist and be continually updated.
“We create great entertainment experience and when they’re ready we deliver them to consumers. Rockstar Games has said that they plan to continue to support GTA Online and that support of GTA Online has nothing to do with the launch of Red Dead Redemption 2. These are different projects and they stand independent of one another.”
This shouldn’t come as a huge surprise. Four years later, Grand Theft Auto Online has been a huge financial success for Take Two and Rockstar and one where players continue to spend money via microtransactions in the game.
