Japanese Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon Trailer Focuses on Necrozma

It has been becoming more and more evident that the Legendary Pokémon Necrozma will have an important role in the upcoming games Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, despite having a very small and hidden role in the original Pokémon Sun and Moon. While the new English trailer for the games seemed to focus more on the new games’ Ultra Beasts, as well as the new area Ultra Megalopolis in Ultra Space and the new team The Ultra Recon Squad, the recently uploaded Japanese trailer takes a different approach.

Admittedly, I couldn’t tell exactly what was going on in this trailer since I can’t read Japanese. However, the visuals and music give the trailer a much more epic feeling than the English trailer, like Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are going to be summer’s biggest action movie or something. In it, a lot of attention is paid to Necrozma, who can be seen fighting with Lunala after imagery of a solar eclipse is shown. The description of the video loosely translates to “There was a sign of darkness. The Alola you know is no longer here.”

In the English trailer, there is some mention of Necrozma’s ability to steal light. Apparently, Ultra Space is “a world where Necrozma has stolen the light.” Even without being able to read the words, we see this theme in the Japanese trailer as well, with the solar eclipse blocking out the sun’s light and the shot of Necrozma grabbing and destroying a ball of light toward the end of the trailer. Clearly, Necrozma and its light-stealing abilities are going to be important in these new games. Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are set to come out on November 17 for the 3DS.
