Star Wars Battlefront 2 was at or near the top of the charts on the world’s most popular console in terms of digital downloads, according to recent lists revealed by Sony’s North American and European Blogs.

Over on the PlayStation Blog EU, Star Wars Battlefront was the #1 selling game for the PlayStation 4 in December.  On the North American PlayStation Blog, it was listed as the third best selling game.  Despite a huge loot box controversy that surrounded the launch of the game, many critics who panned the release, and a large amount of public outcry in terms of forum goers and content creators on YouTube, it still appears to have sold well.

The December release which coincided with the release of The Last Jedi, it appears that Star Wars hype can overcome a vocal minority.  Even earning the title of most downvoted post of all time on Reddit couldn’t slow the title.

Regardless, the public outcry did force the hand of EA and DICE to change the game prior to launch.  The game currently features a progression system that is still very much a work in progress.  DICE and EA have been tweaking the game since launch to provide a better experience, and disabled microtransactions in the game prior to release.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 was one of the biggest stories of 2017 as the loot box controversy spread to not only gaming outlets and forums, but to mainstream financial media.  Government officials from different countries even weighed in the controversy alluding to the need for regulation.

After the dust has settled, it looks like the Battlefront 2 controversy didn’t affect sales all that much.
