Amazon has announced that the Palutena Amiibo will be available on Friday, July 24th starting at 2pm Pacific Time. This is the first exclusive Amiibo for the online retailer, making many wonder how the orders will be handled.
Retailer exclusives have been both a great and an awful experience for Amiibo collectors. Surprisingly Wal-Mart handled the Gold Mario Amiibo fairly well, while retailers like Gamestop have had huge issues, with the Ness Amiibo bringing down the entire Gamestop website at one point.
Amazon has done well with huge amounts of traffic in the past, and were very well prepared for the onslaught of Wave 4 Amiibo buyers. While some figures were available for less time than it took to refresh the page, the site didn’t go down, and orders didn’t have to be cancelled due to being oversold.
As was the case with those Amiibo orders, Amazon will be disabling their 1-Click checkout feature, making it so everyone has to go through the full process, ensuring a fair chance of attaining the sure to be rare figure. Purchases will also be limited to one Palutena Amiibo per customer, hopefully helping fix the scalper problem that has plagued Amiibo fans since the beginning.
The posting concluded with the following warning: “We have ample quantities of this amiibo, but we still expect to sell out. Please act quickly at 2:00 p.m. PT on Friday for your best chance at buying Palutena. Demand is expected to be very high, and there’s no guarantee that she will remain in stock for long.”
