Power Rangers Movie Getting Mobile Tie-In Game

Not to be confused with the other Power Rangers game that recently hit PS4 and Xbox One, developer nWay is now working on a multiplayer fighting game starring the Power Rangers that combines elements from the popular franchise’s TV history and the upcoming film.

The trailer for Power Rangers: Legacy Wars, despite being very brief, does offer some hints toward gameplay and the game’s mechanics. It looks like it will feature one-on-one battles on iOS or Android, most likely turn-based, and will allow players to have a back-up or support character to help them out on occasion.

It looks like you’ll be able to play as Rangers and villains over different generations, as we can see the new movie version of the Red Ranger facing the Green Ranger from the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers TV series. Another battle has the classic Mighty Morphin versions of Goldar and the Pink Ranger against the Blue Ranger from Power Rangers: Dino Charge.

As previously mentioned, this is the second game starring the “teenagers with attitude” to be released this year, as Saban Entertainment is hoping to capitalize off the upcoming film. The first was Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Mega Battle, which was released earlier this month for PS4 and Xbox One, as a throwback to arcade-style multiplayer brawlers like Final Fight and the Super NES/Sega Genesis games featuring the franchise. It was unfortunately met with middling reviews and mediocre scores, as most found just an average game underneath all of that nostalgia.

A solid release date has not yet been released for Power Rangers: Legacy Wars, outside of a vague “March 2017” announcement. The new film, produced by Lionsgate and starring Bryan Cranston as Zordon and Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa, is set for a March 24th release, so expect the game to hit Google Play and the App Store by then.
