Steamforged Games has announced a partnership with Capcom to develop and release the official board game of Resident Evil 2. The project will be funded via an ambitious Kickstarter campaign that will launch this fall, and that hopes to follow previous success of the company with projects like Dark Souls: The Board Game.

The company hopes to translate the core experience of the iconic videogame to this new format, in a way that both hardcore players and newcomers will enjoy their terrifying adventure. Mat Hart, Creative Director and Co-founder of Steamforged Games recognizes the work of Resident Evil 2 in helping to redefine the horror genre and setting a legacy that is still relevant today: “Steamforged has several Resident Evil super fans on the team and so we have a deep understanding of what makes RE such a compelling game experience; one that still has legions of fans around the world still playing the game nearly two decades after its release.”

Dark Souls: The Board Game was a huge Kickstarted hit, hitting its $70,000 goal in just three minutes, and ending with more than $5 million raised. Reviews praised the effort in translating the exact experience from the videogames to the new format, although the result might be too frustrating even for some fans. With Resident Evil 2 offering a much more accessible experience than the Dark Souls videogames, chances are that the board game will also be more easily appreciated by all audiences.

Capcom’s Marketing Director Antoine Molant also shared his excitement and support for the project, saying he is looking forward to see the end product. Capcom is currently working on its own remake of Resident Evil 2, which makes the timing of this new project an excellent move.

Resident Evil 2: The Board Game will launch its Kickstarter campaign in the coming months. Check out the official website of the project for more information.
