Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Coming to Nintendo Switch in November

The original RPG classic Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic that was released back in 2003 as an Xbox exclusive, is finally making its way over to the Nintendo Switch later this year on November 11.

The game takes place around 4000 years before the formation of the Galactic Empire which took place during the Star Wars original trilogy. A Dark Lord of the Sith known as Dark Malak has unleashed a Sith armada against the Galactic Empire. The player creates his own Star Wars character in this game and is now responsible for venturing to different planets in the galaxy in hopes of putting an end to Darth Malak’s plans.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic of 2003 currently clocks in at a file size of 15.6 GB, that normally wouldn’t be a problem, but given that the Nintendo Switch has only 32GB of internal storage, this may prompt fans who are eager to play this game on-the-go to expand their storage by adding a microSD.

It is worth noting that since the Disney acquisition of Lucasfilm back in 2012 for $4 billion, Knights of the Old Republic has not been a canon story of the Star Wars universe. However, there have been quite a few rumors hinting at the possibility of a new film based on the games that are currently in the works.

While the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake was announced lately during the September PlayStation Showcase, the remake is set to be a timed exclusive for PlayStation 5 only and so far it has no set release date or even a release year yet. So it’s very unlikely that the remake will be making its way over to the Nintendo Switch anytime soon, which means Nintendo players will have to make do with the original product for the foreseeable future.

The Nintendo Switch version is developed by Aspyr, the same developer of the game’s remake over on the PlayStation. This signals yet another win for Star Wars fans that have been seeing a tremendous rise in the number of Star Wars games since the EA development exclusivity deal with LucasFilm. Since then, Ubisoft has announced its own open-world Star Wars game in early development, and Bethesda has announced its own Indiana Jones game.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is currently available for purchase on Xbox and PC, and will be available on the Nintendo Switch on November 11, 2021.
