Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin Release Date Confirmed

New info and gameplay has been revealed for the upcoming game, Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin. In the Square Enix presentation of Tokyo Game Show 2021, the new trailer showed off a second demo to try out as well as an actual release date for the game itself. You might remember this game as being that over-the-top and corny Final Fantasy game where the protagonist had this vendetta against “Chaos”.

Well, it’s much further in development and looking a lot better than it initially did. It has also been given a release date, too. The game is set to release on March 18, 2022. This game is a prequel of sorts, retelling the events of the first Final Fantasy game. It’s not going to be a one to one recreation, but will contain elements of it. Think of this as a reboot to the game like Final Fantasy VII Remake is to its original counterpart.

The newest trailer shows off a bit more of an insight to the game’s setting and other characters you’ll meet throughout your journey. Play as the four warriors of light and kill this Chaos entity to restore peace and rid the land of darkness. However, the trailer denotes a key factor in this pursuit to kill Chaos.

“When was this fateful day that sent time spiraling into a loop?”

Remember that quote. As shown in the trailer, you’re playing as a burly, blonde man with extraordinary powers. He didn’t seem to have a name revealed in the initial trailer or in the first demo. If you follow the trailer carefully until the end, you’ll notice that the same voice of this protagonist reveals that his name is Jack Garland.

However, for people who know the story of Final Fantasy 1, Garland is the main bad guy. Also, when he reveals his name, he is in a form similar to Chaos’ final form from the first game. He is seen carrying the bloodied, unconscious body of Sarah, the daughter of the King of Cornelia and Queen Jayne.

Whether or not this game is shaping up to have time paradoxes be a crucial part of its story is yet to be confirmed, but this trailer is saying otherwise. It’d be hilarious to see that you are in search of yourself to quell the darkness that is Chaos. For all we know, maybe Jack Garland is an alter ego from another timeline or someone of the Garland lineage.
