Earlier this year we learned that Mario would be making the leap from Nintendo consoles to mobile devices in the form of Super Mario Run, but we had still been waiting on a price and release date for the game. While we’re just weeks away from the game’s previously-confirmed December launch, the price and release date has now been confirmed.
While the game will be a free download, there will only be “elements” of each of the game’s three modes that will be playable for free. As a result, if you want the complete and uninterrupted experience then you need to pay $9.99 for unlimited access.
For those who don’t know, the game is an endless runner that has you controlling Mario in a 2D-style as you tap the screen to maneuver through various platforming levels. The anticipation for the game has been very high, with sign-ups surpassing the 20 million count and an analyst predicting that the game will surpass one billion downloads.
Super Mario Run will launch on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices running iOS 8.0 or higher on December 15th.
