The Uncharted series may be over and done with when it comes to Nathan Drake, but it will continue in some form later this year thanks to the release of the Uncharted: The Lost Legacy expansion. While we know that it will feature gameplay that fans of the series will come to expect, the developers have revealed that the content has given them the opportunity to shake things up slightly.
Naughty Dog’s Josh Scherr recently did an interview with Game Informer about the expansion, where he discussed the company’s desire to do something different. He said that they “had the unique opportunity to do something that was truly standalone, unlike Left Behind which was like the missing chunk of the story in The Last of Us. This is something we can do completely independently while still in the same universe with the same characters, and exploring new relationships with them.”
The game originally was set to be a smaller experience that was more along the lines of what the company did with The Last Of Us’ Left Behind expansion, though as time went on The Lost Legacy kept getting bigger and bigger. “We tried to keep it small,” said Scherr. “As we started coming up with story ideas, it just became clear that with new characters and in this genre of Uncharted, it has to be big. With the gameplay stuff we wanted to explore, it felt like it needed more room to breathe.”
We still don’t have a release date for Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, but whenever it does release it will be available exclusively for PlayStation 4. While fans of the series may be hoping that the developer might sneak in a Nathan Drake cameo into the expansion, it was revealed earlier this month that that won’t be the case as Nathan Drake’s story has officially been wrapped up.
