This Paddock Lake Island McDonald’s just had a public health crisis, and the thing inside multiple drinks is nightmare fuel

A Paddock Lake McDonald’s location has been forced to pull its drive-thru beverage machine out of service following a string of reports involving worms found inside customer drinks, as reported by Kenosha County Eye. This situation is the definition of a bad day for anyone just trying to grab a quick soda on their way to work or school.

The public health crisis kicked off when a customer uploaded photos to the internet showing a red worm floating in a clear soda cup. You can clearly see the worm nestled right in there with the ice and the straw. The customer who posted the photos shared that a child had already consumed a portion of the drink before the discovery was made. They described the situation as “extremely angry and disgusted.”

It didn’t take long for other people to jump into the comments section with their own horror stories about the same location. One person shared, “Same s— happened to me this morning… calling health dept,” while another individual mentioned they had a similar experience earlier in April. These reports suggest that this wasn’t just a one-time fluke. When you see multiple people reporting the same thing, it really makes you rethink your drive-thru habits.

It is truly unsettling to think about what might be going on behind the scenes at a place like McDonald’s where you expect a standardized, clean experience

The official response from the Kenosha County Public Health department arrived on April 27, 2026. Inspectors headed to the restaurant specifically to look into “several consumer complaints regarding worms inside of beverages.”

When they arrived, they found that the situation was serious enough to warrant immediate action. The inspection report highlights that the drive-thru soda and ice machine was already out of service by the time the officials got there. Management had taken the step to shut it down before the inspectors showed up, which is a move that tells you just how bad things were looking.

During the site visit, the health inspectors found that the tiles located beneath the soda and ice machine were “severely damaged.” It is one thing to have a broken machine, but when the flooring underneath is compromised, it creates a whole new level of risk for contamination. Management informed the inspectors that the machine had been serviced by a pest control company earlier that day. They claimed the area was treated, and the entire unit was cleaned and sanitized. Even with those steps taken, the health department found more work to be done.

One of the major red flags mentioned in the inspection report involved the wastewater discharge from the machine. The inspectors pointed out that there was a critical need for proper air-gap separation. Without this, there is a risk of contamination from the sewage system. The health department ended up citing the restaurant for failing to maintain its physical facilities in good repair, highlighting those damaged floor tiles as a primary concern.

If you are wondering what happens next, the drive-thru machine is staying off-limits until the restaurant passes a formal reinspection. The health officials have been clear that the machine cannot be used again until they personally verify that all contamination risks are gone and that the proper safeguards are in place. The restaurant is also on the hook for a $100 reinspection fee. While all of this is being sorted out, the location is still operating by using a separate soda and ice machine that is located inside the dining area.

It is rare to see a public health issue unfold in such a transparent way, but the combination of social media complaints and the official public record from the county makes the timeline very easy to follow. You have to wonder how long the issue was persisting before it was finally caught and addressed by the authorities. It is definitely a reminder that even at massive, well-known chains, you should always keep an eye on what you are being served.

Seeing a physical contaminant in your drink is the last thing you want when you are just looking for a refreshing beverage. The fact that this went from a single social media post to a county-mandated shutdown shows how important it is for customers to speak up when they notice something wrong.

As for the Paddock Lake location, they have a lot of work to do to regain the trust of their local customers. It is going to take more than just cleaning a machine to fix the reputation damage caused by these reports. You can expect that health inspectors will be watching this location very closely during their next visit to ensure everything is up to code.
