‘I did not do anything with it’: woman accused of storming bus carrying 37 children with loaded Glock

A 19-year-old woman is facing felony charges after a road rage encounter that allegedly involved her boarding a school bus while armed. Jamiya Sutton was taken into custody following the incident last week, which court records indicate occurred just five days after she was involved in a separate, similar confrontation.

The confrontation unfolded in Indianapolis near East 36th Street and North DeQuincy Street, according to Fox. While initial reports suggested a vehicle accident, investigators later determined that Sutton’s Kia and the school bus never actually collided. Sutton told police she believed the school bus pulled out in front of her, which caused her to strike a construction sign.

Rather than stopping, she allegedly followed the bus as she believed the driver was at fault. Once she concluded the bus would not stop, Sutton drove around the vehicle and intentionally parked her Kia sideways in front of it, effectively preventing the bus from leaving. At the time of this standoff, there were 37 children on the bus.

The driver stayed on the bus, so Sutton forced her way in with the gun

The driver told investigators that Sutton exited her vehicle holding a black handgun and walked around the bus, waving the weapon and demanding that the driver come outside. As the driver refused to leave, Sutton reportedly forced the bus door open and climbed aboard while still armed.

She then waved the gun and yelled at the driver before eventually leaving the bus and returning to her car. When police arrived at the scene, they found the Kia still parked sideways in front of the school bus. An officer turned down the loud music playing inside the vehicle and discovered a handgun under the driver’s seat.

Police identified the weapon as a Glock 17 Gen 4 equipped with a magazine containing 21 live rounds. Sutton admitted to officers that she had been armed during the confrontation. However, she insisted that she “did not do anything with it.”

Court records indicate that Sutton had already been arrested only five days before the school bus incident, following a different road rage encounter near 51st Street and Allisonville Road. In that earlier case, she is accused of cursing at a man she believed had cut her off and displaying the same black handgun recovered after the bus incident.

The accounts of how the incident started also differ, as Sutton blamed the bus driver for the initial interaction. On the other hand, the driver told investigators that she did not even notice the Kia until Sutton had already driven around the bus to block its path. She also confirmed that the bus never struck Sutton’s car.

Sutton is currently facing three felonies and a misdemeanor in Marion Superior Court 21. These charges include criminal confinement with a deadly weapon as a Level 3 felony and criminal confinement with a vehicle as a Level 5 felony. The confinement charges reflect the allegation that Sutton intentionally used her car to trap a school bus full of children.

She is also charged with pointing a firearm at another person as a Level 6 felony and unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle as a misdemeanor. Road rage confrontations involving guns have made headlines elsewhere this month, including a Fort Worth road rage shooting that ended with four teenagers detained.

Sutton was last reported held without bond in the Marion County Jail. Both road rage cases are expected to move through the Marion County courts, where she is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
