New Predictions of an Early Price Cut for PS Vita

Financial publication, Forbes Magazine, is already calling for a price cut for the PlayStation Vita after a lackluster second week of sales.  Pointing to the elephant in the room, one contributor to the financial publication believes that history will repeat itself, and Nintendo's unprecedented price drop earlier this year, will be matched by Sony sooner rather than later if they want the Vita to succeed.  They claim that Sony will need to act "Very Soon"  and that the North American launch will likely be "a true debacle"  and cite several reasons for this.

For one, as what most of the gaming community have been claiming all along, the pricing "seems delusional"  when compared to devices like the Kindle Fire which saw great commercial success and is priced significantly lower than a Vita.  That sweet $200 price level is one that North American consumers have proven to be comfortable with if the Kindle Fire's success over the holidays is any indication.

There's no doubt that the portable gaming market is much more popular in Japan than it is anywhere else in the world, and if Sony struggles there, it could be a sign of even worse troubles ahead for the handheld when it launches worldwide in 2012.  While its all speculation until we see the actual response from consumers for the device here in the U.S. , it looks like the industry shift to tablets that analysts have been pointing to all along may mark its first casualty with the PS Vita, as Forbes points out, "The rot sets in first at the periphery".

Why are Americans so god damn cheap, $250 is expensive? It’s going to be the cheapest price compared to other countries. I’m Australian and we have to pay $350 and seeing how our dollar is stronger than the American dollar we pay more. Same as European countries, Asian countries and everywhere in between. Quit your whining about the price you cheap sad sacks.

Hey Dutch I’m from north America and its not so much the price it’s the history of the Sony handheld.. The record sucks.. We may be smarter then the rest of the world. As you said you pay 350.00 to our 250.00 ever wonder why we wait and know when something great comes along. We don’t mind paying if it’s worth it. The rest of the world just jumps right in but not us.. We lead the world bro.. It’s just how it is.. Good example. XBox360 is a big seller here still why??price drop and still some good games we don’t throw away our money on systems again only when it’s something great..
