‘They’ll Fail’: Democrats Vow Republicans Won’t Intimidate Them As Trump’s Shutdown Causes Health Care Costs To Skyrocket

Hundreds of thousands without pay, and the GOP's still haggling over billionaire tax breaks.

Democrats are fighting back against Republican policies as a government shutdown continues and health care costs are about to go up for millions of Americans. The standoff has left hundreds of thousands of federal workers without pay while raising fears about the future of important government services.

According to MSNBC, the shutdown started after Republicans refused to compromise on policies that Democrats say favor tax breaks for billionaires and big companies over health care protection. With control of the White House and both houses of Congress, Republicans have moved forward with what Democrats call extreme measures that will raise costs and reduce access to care for working families.

Democrats are making it clear they will not back down despite pressure from the White House and Republican leaders. “The White House and Republicans can keep trying to intimidate us,” Democrats said, adding that they will keep pushing to reopen the government while fighting what they call the GOP health care disaster. The message is simple: “They’ll fail.”

Health Care Costs Set To Spike Across The Country

The impact on American families is expected to be bad. Democrats warn that health care premiums will go up a lot in the coming weeks and months, with some costs doubling or even tripling. According to their numbers, 15 million Americans could lose their health insurance completely if Republican policies are not reversed. Another 22 million people face at least $1,000 in higher health care costs each year.

The situation comes at a tough time for many families already struggling with high prices for food and housing. Democrats argue that the last thing working people and middle class families need right now is higher health care costs. They say Americans already pay some of the highest health care costs in the world, and the new Republican policies will push families toward bankruptcy and stop people from filling their prescriptions.

The shutdown has created more problems beyond health care. The White House started firing thousands of furloughed workers on Friday, a move Democrats call illegal. Federal workers and their families across the country depend on government paychecks to pay their bills.

There are also growing worries that programs getting federal money, including food and housing help, could be affected if the shutdown goes on. Trump has previously confronted members of his own party over proposed Medicaid cuts, showing splits within Republican ranks on health care policy.

Democrats say they will not vote to fund a government that rewards corruption and takes away health care from millions of Americans while making billionaires richer at the expense of the working class.
