‘It grabbed me by my hair like microwave popcorn’: Woman assaulted by escaped farm animal in city neighborhood

A woman in Buffalo, New York, had a scary run-in with a pig on Thursday. The pig, named Breakfast, got loose from its owner’s yard and went after a local resident in the Hamlin Park Historic District. The whole thing left people in the neighborhood pretty shocked.

According to The Independent, Renita Shadwick was the person who got attacked by the pig. She said that Breakfast came at her and knocked her down. The whole thing felt really strange to her because you don’t expect to see a pig running around in the middle of a city.

Shadwick said the pig came right at her and was really rough. “It was on me,” she said. “And it grabbed me by my hair like you’d shake a bag of microwave popcorn.” She had to use her arm to keep the pig away from her face. While all this was happening, she kept thinking about how weird it was to be dealing with a pig on Victor Place in Buffalo.

Things got interesting when the owner showed up

After the attack, a Buffalo police officer came running over. Shadwick caught the moment on video. In the clip, you can hear the officer yelling that the pig was his. He called the pig Breakfast and said his daughter told him it had gotten out by crawling under their back fence.

Shadwick told the officer that the pig had jumped on her and bit her. The officer told her that Breakfast probably thought she had food because she smelled nice. After catching the pig, the officer brought it back to his house, according to what neighbors told 7 News.

Some people in the area think this whole thing is funny, but others are worried. Angie Davis-Leveritte lives nearby and said that while it might seem silly at first, it’s actually pretty serious. She said your first reaction is to laugh because seeing a pig in the city is so random.

But she pointed out that it’s really not safe to have any animal running around loose like that. She said it’s just like having a loose dog in the neighborhood, which can be risky.

Right now, Buffalo’s city rules don’t really say much about keeping pigs or farm animals as pets. This might be why someone was able to keep a pig in the city in the first place. Stories about unusual animal encounters have been popping up more often lately.

Council member Zeneta Everhart put out a statement about what happened. She said she was really worried when she heard about the pig attacking someone on Victor Place. She let Buffalo Police know about it right away.

Everhart also said she talked to Shadwick and was happy that her injuries weren’t worse than they were. City officials are looking into everything now and they’re calling what happened unacceptable.
