Xbox 720 rumored to be lagging behind the PS4 in power

Gaming played a big part at the Consumer Electronics Show this year, but the biggest news may have been revealed behind closed doors at the annual convention.  According to unnamed sources, Sony’s PlayStation 4 will arrive with a processor based on the AMD A10 APU, with the capability of running at 1.84 teraflops, while the Xbox 720 processor will run at 1.23.  If true, this would give the PlayStation 4 a sizable advantage in computing power.

However, according to the report, the companies will also differ in RAM sizes as well.  These rumors suggest that Sony’s new PlayStation will have less RAM than the Xbox 720,  with the PS4 having 4GB as opposed to 8GB in the Next Xbox.  Industry analysts and technology experts have asserted that these rumors are certainly plausible, but that it’s hard to judge which machine will be more powerful in this context.  Obviously, it’s up to the hardware engineers to make these components fit together in the most efficient way possible, and for developers to use this technology to get the best on-screen results.

Once again though, these new specifications are just rumors, and are said to come from unnamed sources who attended “secret meetings”.  While they may or may not be true, there’s no doubt that Xbox 720 and PlayStation 4 anticipation is reaching a fever pitch.  Many expect Sony and Microsoft to reveal these next-generation systems very soon, with the earliest projections looking at March 2013 and the Game Developers Conference as a prime opportunity for such a reveal.
