A high-tech dining room assistant was supposed to take the physical load off the waitstaff, but they ended up having to wrestle it to the floor

Would you mind a robo waiter?

If you are into sci-fi movies or have been playing a lot of video games like Cyberpunk 2077, the idea of relying on tech seems cool. But at the same time, they often highlight a darker side of them as well, which makes you hesitate. Though a restaurant staff member in California was eager to take this chance by introducing a waiter in the form of a high-tech assistant, the robot later ended up doing something odd.

Recommended Videos

This happened in San Jones and came to light after a viral video showing the sudden chaos that broke out in the restaurant. As reported by Futurism, the inhuman assistant didn’t do anything harmful, but the way it began dancing on the counter could have caused harm if it had struck someone with its arms.

The video is spreading quickly online and captures the entire scene. Everything looked normal until the robot began performing impressive dance moves and knocking over nearby utensils, an occurrence completely unexpected to both customers and staff. One of the staff members quickly grabbed the robot from behind and tried to stop it with a phone app; after considerable effort, she managed to do so.

It looks like the robot was feeling extra energetic that day

One can worry about Alexa asking inappropriate questions, but with this robot, the only problem you could face is a tough dance-off, peak man-versus-machine. This assistant was feeling extra energetic that day, as it didn’t take just one person to fix him; multiple staff members arrived and held the robot in place until the one using the phone application managed to turn it off.

Those who were around must have found it odd, but they all seemed to take it easy, as everyone, including the restaurant’s staff, appeared to be smiling. The exact cause of this behavior hasn’t come to light, but it could be due to some glitch, or one of the members might have accidentally pressed the ‘dance button’ and failed to figure out how to turn it off fast.

Whatever the case was, it’s quite unlikely that this incident will make you feel odd about technology like SZA thinks about the usage of AI in music. But apart from the laughs, if this robot were against some customer’s table, it might have spilled all their food or accidentally hit them.
