Bob’s Burgers star faced a fiery crash in a New Hampshire tollplaza, pulled from burning wreckage by an unlikely hero

Yevgeny ‘Eugene’ Mirman, the distinct voice behind Gene Belcher in the popular animated series Bob’s Burgers, has been seriously injured following a fiery car crash in New Hampshire, his representatives confirmed. The 51-year-old actor was involved in a single-vehicle accident at a toll plaza on the F.E. Everett Turnpike in Bedford around 11:55 AM on Tuesday, March 31. This news initially broke without identifying the victim, but a press release has since revealed Mirman was the person involved.

As reported by The Hill, authorities detailed that as emergency units were on their way to the scene, a veteran State Trooper, who was assigned to Governor Kelly Ayotte’s security detail, arrived at the crash. The trooper immediately saw the vehicle was actively on fire and observed the driver was still trapped inside.

This brave individual didn’t hesitate; they pulled Mirman from the burning car through a window, bringing him to safety. Governor Ayotte herself, along with other witnesses at the scene, also provided assistance to the trooper during the rescue.

The whole ordeal is a testament to the quick thinking and selflessness of everyone involved

Mirman was quickly transported to a local hospital by ambulance for treatment. Thankfully, his injuries are not considered life-threatening, which is a huge relief given the severity of the crash. His representatives issued a statement addressing the incident, saying, “Eugene was in a very scary car accident. He wants to thank the bystanders, state police, first responders and hospital staff who saved him. He is grateful to be on the mend. At this time, we kindly ask for privacy for Eugene and his family as he focuses on recovering from his injuries.”

At this point, no charges have been filed in connection with the crash, but an investigation into the circumstances surrounding it is still ongoing. New Hampshire State Police confirmed that Mirman was traveling northbound on the Everett Turnpike shortly before noon when his vehicle struck the Bedford Toll Plaza, leading to the car catching fire and trapping him inside. Col. Mark B. Hall, a State Police official, spoke about the terrifying crash in a press release. He said, “Certainly, their actions were heroic in what they did. Without hesitation, they put themselves in danger to render aid to someone who was in need of it.”

Col. Hall further elaborated on Governor Ayotte’s involvement. He stated that the governor did exit her vehicle and tried to assist in any way she could at the scene. She wasn’t in harm’s way at any point, he clarified, but she clearly has a great deal of care for citizens and tried to do what she could to provide assistance.

Governor Ayotte also shared her own comments on X, writing, “I want to thank the Trooper on my security detail and the bystanders who stepped up to help at the scene of the crash for their brave lifesaving efforts today. Joe and I are praying for the full recovery of the driver who was injured today.”

She later shared a local news clip of the incident, which included footage of the burning wreckage, adding, “I’m proud of the State Trooper and the bystanders who saved a life at the scene of yesterday’s crash in Bedford. It’s an example of the great work first responders do each day to keep New Hampshire safe and how Granite Staters always step up to help someone in need.”

Eugene Mirman, who was born in Moscow, Russia, later emigrated to the United States as a child. He spent much of his early life in Massachusetts before being drawn to the vibrant energy of New York City. It was there that he developed a deep love for comedy, which would ultimately shape a significant portion of his career. He has accumulated a string of truly memorable credits across various platforms.

You might recognize his voice or face from shows like Flight of the Conchords, Delocated, Archer, Broad City, StarTalk, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, Inside Amy Schumer, Conan O’Brien, The Colbert Report, Late Night with Seth Myers, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and Home Movie.

Beyond his extensive comedy credentials, Mirman has also made his mark on the silver screen in feature films. He lent his talents to The Bob’s Burgers Movie, bringing Gene Belcher to life in a feature-length adventure. He also appeared in films such as Confess and Fletch. Not content with just acting, Mirman even flexed his skills behind the camera, launching his own production company, Pretty Good Friends, with co-founder Julie Smith Clem back in 2006.

This follows the DUI incident of Tiger Woods, but unlike Wood’s case, Mirman doesn’t have a reputation for reckless driving.
