A Long Island man wasn’t taking his girlfriend’s threats seriously for months, but a “hissing sound” on a random day ended up blowing off his hand

He lost his hand!

Domestic violence and a toxic household can turn a person’s life upside down. However, things sometimes escalate to a level where the toxic person from the same house ends up hurting their partner, as in the case of the Texas principal who got shot in her home. A similar incident took place in Long Island, where a woman reportedly tossed a homemade dynamite at her boyfriend, and his hand blew off in the aftermath. The girlfriend has been charged and will spend 25 years behind bars for carrying out this horrific crime.

According to the New York Post, 35-year-old Keyonna Waddell was found guilty of attacking her boyfriend with a homemade dynamite stick in March 2024 when the argument between them became intense. It was reported by the DA that Waddell had threatened her boyfriend with using dynamite on him for days, then she finally made it a reality. Her boyfriend reported that he was asleep when he heard a “hissing sound” from the bed. He then woke up to it, and to his fright, he found a dynamite bar on his bed, but in an attempt to throw it away, it blew his hand off.

After the incident, Waddell ran away while her boyfriend rushed on the road, crying for help. He was then taken to Nassau University Medical Center. When he was given medical attention, a part of his hand was missing due to the blast. As a result, the rest of the hand was amputated to avoid any further complications. The DA reported, “Domestic violence can escalate to deadly levels, and this case is a sobering reminder of that reality.”

Waddell was arrested the following Day, and is now convicted on all charges

Keyonnna Waddell ran from the crime scene but was eventually arrested the next day. But now she has been convicted and will serve a long sentence in prison. DA Tierney, in his statement, said, “Thanks to the outstanding work of our prosecutors and the Suffolk County Police Department, a dangerous individual has been held accountable and will face a lengthy prison sentence for this horrific act.”

Apart from Waddell’s crime and an incident where a boyfriend-girlfriend beef hurt an innocent pet rabbit, there are other horrific examples of couple tensions as well. In 2025, Davis Lee Davis, a named individual, was convicted of attacking her girlfriend’s mother’s house with a chemical bomb. Before the incident, Davis had been abusing his girlfriend until she left for her grandmother’s apartment. Shortly after she arrived there, a homemade bomb exploded in the parking lot.

Surveillance footage showed Davis arriving nearby just before the blast, and chemical residue indicated a homemade explosive device. Eventually, he was convicted of carrying out the attack. Davis, in that incident, was sentenced to 19 years in prison as there was no injury involved, but in this case of Keyonna Waddell, she got her boyfriend handicapped with the attack. Her crime, as reported, could lead to 25 years in prison.
