Saints Row 4 will not be coming to the Xbox One and PS4, and the reasoning behind Volition sticking with current generation consoles is not surprising. Volition chalks it up to a bad experience with the launch of the PlayStation 2 as one of the major reasons that we won’t see this release on next gen hardware.
Speaking with IGN, Volition explained that they weren’t quite sure about the timing of the launch of the Xbox One and PS4. But furthermore, they wanted to make sure that they got it right, pointing all the way back to a PS2 launch title that was described as “brutal”.
“The big thing for us was, we wanted to make sure we had the time to do the game right. Going back in our history, we did Summoner way back in the day as a launch title for PS2 and it was hard. We were able to do it but it was brutal. There were things we had to rush as we just didn’t have time to polish… We’d learnt from our past and weren’t about to pump the game out and cut corners.”
Saints Row 4 was originally thought to be arriving as an expansion to Saints Row: The Third, before Volition went back to the drawing board and added on to the game. Saints Row 4 is due out next month, and will arrive on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
