During the SDCC panel for The Walking Dead, series creator Robert Kirkman and Telltale Games president Kevin Bruner announced that there will be a third season for the popular game series. The announcement was then confirmed via Twitter from both Skybound and Telltale Games. More information about the upcoming season should begin to trickle out once The Walking Dead Season 2 concludes

Confirmed at SDCC! Telltale Games President Kevin Bruner & Robert Kirkman -“There WILL be a 3rd season of The Walking Dead

The current season just reached its penultimate episode with the release of The Walking Dead Season 2: Episode 4. Only one episode remains for the season, which likely prompted many people to ask about the prospect of a third season. That final episode should be released some time within the next two months if past schedules hold.

No release date or story details were announced along with The Walking Dead Seaason 3. With the popularity of the Clementine character it is likely she will remain a major part of the series. Whether she will be the main, playable character, or even whether she will survive the current season, remains to be seen.

Another question that is left to be answered is where The Walking Dead Season 3 will fit within Telltale’s future schedule. They currently have Tales from the Borderlands and Game of Thrones as future projects. Whether those two series will begin releasing before The Walking Dead Season 3 will probably be revealed after the current season concludes.

This announcement doesn’t bode well for the potential second season of The Wolf Among Us. That series concluded a couple of weeks before The Walking Dead Season 2: Episode 4 released. No word has been released about a potential second season. With an announcement coming about The Walking Dead’s future before the current season even concludes, it is odd that nothing has been said in regards to The Wolf Among Us.
