No Man’s Sky PC Version Coming After Timed Exclusivity On PS4

The PC version of No Man’s Sky has been a strange beast. After the game’s reveal at VGX 2013 almost everyone assumed that it would head to PC at some point, despite being labeled a PS4 game. There was just something about the style and genre that would have fit perfectly on the PC platform. As more information about the game came out though, it seemed like the developers felt it might not come to PC. Thankfully that is not the case, with the latest Edge magazine, via NeoGAF, revealing that the game will be a timed exclusive for PS4 and will head to PC later on.

I actually got in a bit of trouble for saying that we wanted the game to feel really console-y

The article states that the game will come to PC, but that it will launch as a timed exclusive on PS4. The interviewer then asks No Man’s Sky managing director Sean Murray if that changed the game in any way. “I actually got in a bit of trouble for saying that we wanted the game to feel really console-y” explains Murray. “We’ve always had PC in mind but in my head (console-y) means solid framerate and immediate controls. I think a PC game can be ‘console-y’ and it’s intended as a compliment, but I get in trouble for saying it.”

With these two major platforms confirmed for eventual release of No Man’s Sky I’m sure questions will shift to the Xbox One. However, with how entrenched the game is in PS4 and certain policies Microsoft has about indie publishers, it is unlikely we will see No Man’s Sky on Xbox One any time soon, if at all. Still, it is a definite possibility as Hello Games has left the door open for all platforms to see a release at some point.

No Man’s Sky’s release date is still to be announced.
