The official Dragon Age Twitter account has confirmed that Dragon Age: Inquisition will follow the recent trends and be a lower resolution on Xbox One when compared to PS4. To be specific, the PlayStation4 version of the game will be rendered at 1080p, while the Xbox One version will be 900p. This seems to run a little counter to Ubisoft’s recent decision to keep parity between the two platforms, which resulted in both systems rendering the game in 900p. Although there has been some debate as to what exactly was said in the interview.

Confirmed: Dragon Age: Inquisition resolution is 1080p on PS4, and 900p on Xbox One.

The reason for the difference between PS4 and Xbox One versions of Dragon Age: Inquisition wasn’t specifically stated. However, it was implied that the Xbox One was simply less powerful as the message says that they “maximized the current potential of each platform” to achieve this result. This was certainly true at the launch of both systems, though with the recent patch for Xbox One that removed the Kinect requirement it seemed like the disparity had almost been eliminated. That might not be the case though given this news.

The most recent game that I played with a similar difference in visual fidelity was the Destiny Beta, which was 900p on Xbox One right up until the final game’s release. Looking at the comparison video that we put together did show some small differences, but nothing too extreme to warrant concern. While there certainly will be some difference between Dragon Age: Inquisition on the two platforms, it likely won’t be enough to make one feel inferior to the other.

Dragon Age: Inquisition will be released on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC on November 18th.
