According to a recent Bloomberg article, Amiibo sales have reached 14.7 million total units worldwide. This, along with strong sales of Splatoon and a weak Yen, have allowed Nintendo to post their first quarterly profit in a while.
According to the most recent numbers from Nintendo, they had sold 10.5 million Amiibo as of March 31st, 2015. Four months later they’ve sold an additional 4 million, showing an average of a million Amiibo per month at this point. Although the overall average is more like 2 million.
Of course this will ebb and flow with the release schedule, which is fairly stagnant in the US at the moment. Wave 4 was released in late May, selling out in minutes for many of the most hard-to-find figures. Since then we’ve only just seen two additional figures launch, with Dark Pit and Palutena hitting the market over the last couple of weeks.
Nintendo seems to be holding back their Amiibo Waves in the US until they can get a number of restocks out. We have seen quite a bit of these, with Villager, Marth, Wii Fit Trainer, and many other extremely rare Amiibo becoming easier to find. Even store exclusives like Rosalina and Jigglypuff have become much cheaper on the resell market.
It seems that the Amiibo success story is just beginning though, with these average monthly sales only continuing for the foreseeable future. With major Amiibo launches coming soon, such as Wave 6, and the 30th Anniversary 8-Bit Mario we should see this trend continue, or even improve over the next few months.
