Minecraft itself might not be heading to Wii U any time soon, but at least fans can get a taste of the universe with Telltale’s Minecraft: Story Mode. The series takes the mega popular open world game and turns it into a graphic adventure in the vein of The Walking Dead, Tales from the Borderlands, and The Wolf Among Us.

The new series, which will follow the same episodic formula as other Telltale games, will debut some time later this year. Until now we knew it would hit the usual suspects, with PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC, and mobile versions all confirmed since its initial unveiling. However, today Telltale confirmed that it would also hit Nintendo’s Wii U.

It’s a pretty interesting move, as Minecraft is rather famously not available on any Nintendo platform. Despite being an almost perfect fit for 3DS and Wii U, the game simply never came out for either system. With Microsoft now owning the series and its developer, the chances seemed slim that it ever would be released at all.

To have the series make its debut on the console via the Telltale spinoff is a bit odd, but it could be good news for those still holding out hope for a potential release. Minecraft: Story Mode hits later this year.
