20 years ago today the original PlayStation launched, changing video games forever. Now, four main and two handheld iterations later, Sony is celebrating the anniversary with a new video that looks back at the epic history of the platform. Showing the pre-launch hype of the original PlayStation, all the way to today, the video will certainly entertain any PlayStation fan.

Pretty much every major PlayStation franchise gets a piece of the action here, with such greats as Uncharted, Twisted Metal, Gran Turismo, God of War, The Last of Us, and many more. Probably the most enjoyable part is seeing the older footage of kids playing PlayStation games, alongside the massive hype for the new systems at launch.

“Sony PlayStation 2 will be the biggest thing to come along since TV was invented” might be a bit overkill, but the PS2 definitely had an amazing run, ultimately becoming the best selling game system of all time. The PS3 gets a bit skipped somewhere in the middle, likely due to it not having the most successful launch, though it ended up working out quite well once Sony lowered the price and got some amazing games to market.
