The Assassin’s Creed movie has finished filming according to a tweet by the head of Assassin’s Creed content for Ubisoft, Azaïzia Aymar. The film is currently slated for a December 21st, 2016 release date, so this gives the team plenty of time to wrap up the rest of the work needed on the film.

This includes post-production work like editing, adding visual effects, getting audio re-recorded as necessary, and possibly a set of reshoots if there are found to be any problems with the footage. Really, the principle photography is just a small part of the equation these days, as moveis become bigger and bigger showcases for CGI and other effects.

The Assassin’s Creed movie stars Michael Fassbender as the Assassin Aguilar and his present day descendant Callum Lynch. The film will take place in 15th century Spain, with Lynch utilizing the iconic Animus device to learn the information and skills necessary to take on the contemporary form of the Knights Templar.

Movies based on video games have had somewhat of a spotty track record, with some decent entries in the past. However, the overall genre has been disastrous, with major flops like House of the Dead, Alone in the Dark, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation , and others. Still, some bright spots have shown through, and this year seems to be full of big budget entries from major studios.
