The PlayStation VR sold itself largely on the price that players have to pay to experience it. $399 is a fra cry from the $599 and $799 of its closest competitors, but that price is a bit misleading when it comes to pre orders. Just announced by Sony, the pre orders for the PlayStation VR will begin on March 22nd, but will only be for the PlayStation VR Launch Bundle, which comes with a camera, Move controllers, and a game.
PS4 owners who want to jump into the VR headset game, but only want the headset itself will have to wait, as Sony says that “the core PS VR bundle, which has a suggested retail price of $399.99 USD / $549.99 CAD, is not available for pre-order.”
The problem with this is that there are tons of gamers out there who already own a PlayStation camera, and Move controllers, and might not want to have extra ones laying around. To them, the best deal is to just get the headset itself, and grab anything else they might need separately, such as the PlayStation Worlds game. Unfortunately those players will have to wait until launch and try to grab one in store.
How rare and hard to get they will be is anyone’s guess at this point. With the bundle taking the lead on pre orders, it might be extremely hard to find. Hopefully not though, and everyone can grab the PlayStation VR set that they want.
