Overwatch had been on top of the UK video game charts for three straight weeks, but now it has been replaced with Doom 2016. This is the first time the game has been on top.
As reported by GFK Chart-Track, Doom 2016 got the top spot thanks to retail promotions discounting the price of the game. The price went down by 5 pounds and sales shot up 57 percent compared to last week.
This is Bethesda’s first UK top seller since Fallout 4 came out last November. It is also the first time ID Software has a UK best seller since the release of Doom 3 back in 2004. Doom 2016 had previously been in second place losing out to Overwatch and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.
Speaking of Overwatch, the game continues to be a good seller as it was in the number 2 position with sales only dropping by a healthy 24 percent. Over 10 million people have played the game worldwide.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End rounded out the top three and sales dropped by only a minuscule 1 percent compared to last week. FIFA 16 and Grand Theft Auto V placed number 4 and 5 respectively.
As for new releases, the only one to break into the top 40 was MotoGP 16: Valentino Rossi. It’s going to be a little quiet until LEGO Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens comes out at the end of the month.
