Mario Kart 8 released back in 2014 for the Wii U and managed to be actually sell units of the struggling system, so it was no surprise that we saw glimpses of what appeared to be a suped up version of the game during the initial Switch reveal. The Nintendo Switch presentation didn’t show much of it in action, but the Nintendo website has officially confirmed a release date for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe takes the original release of the game and brings back characters that were missing, as well as plenty of other new content.

“Hit the road with the definitive version of Mario Kart 8 and play anytime, anywhere! Race your friends or battle them in a revised battle mode on new and returning battle courses. Play locally in up to 4-player multiplayer in 1080p while playing in TV Mode. Every track from the Wii U version, including DLC, makes a glorious return. Plus, the Inklings appear as all-new guest characters, along with returning favorites, such as King Boo, Dry Bones, and Bowser Jr.”

It is great to see that a fan favorite character like Bowser Jr. is returning, and the Inklings are a perfect fit considering we got some other Nintendo racers like Link in the DLC for the base game.

The game is adding new courses as well like Urchin Overpass and Battle Stadium, as well as returning stages like GCN Luigi’s Mansion and SNES Battle Course 1.

One of the few complaints about Mario Kart 8 itself was the lackluster Battle Mode, but it sounds like that is getting revamped this time around, with the addition of both Balloon Battle and Bob-omb Blast modes.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will release for Nintendo Switch on April 28 for a full retail price of $59.99. Considering the amount of content it sounds like they are putting in this game though, this sounds more than acceptable.
