Fire Emblem Warriors Adds Sakura From FE Fates

The latest issue of Famitsu has revealed that Sakura from Fire Emblem Fates will be a playable character in Fire Emblem Warriors.

Sakura fulfills a similar to Elise (who was also featured in the preview) in the Birthright Route in Fates, so it makes sense that both would be revealed back-to-back. Both are the youngest of the four siblings featured in each route, each start off as support units with the option of adding physical/magical offense upon promotion and both, of course, are portrayed as your little sister.

Unfortunately, as its a preview, there’s no gameplay of Sakura in action. However, the pictures included in the article show her with a yumi (Hoshido’s bow equivalent) which suggests that her moveset will be inspired by her Priestess class and not Shrine Maiden or Onmyoji. As such, it wouldn’t be unreasonable to expect her to use the yumi as her main form of offense, while using some support magic and potentially even some attack magic on the side.

In addition, the preview also included information about the game’s Fire Emblem-inspired mechanics such as class changes and skills, as well as a “History Mode” that reproduces (major) scenes from the Fire Emblem series.

Sakura’s inclusion in Fire Emblem Warriors completes the royal sibling quartet on the Hoshidan side of the Fates lineup and brings the total amount of characters represented from that title up to nine. Other characters from Fates include Corrin (Female), Ryoma, Hinoka, Takumi, Xander, Camilla, Leo and Elise.

Surely there is some disappointment among older fans that yet another Fates character has been announced while other entries in the series have been left high-and-dry. If you count yourself among them, then you might be happy to know that there is a strong possibility that Sakura could be one of the last characters from Fates to be on the (base) roster. The only remaining characters who haven’t been announced that could be considered important are Azura and, to a lesser degree, Felcia/Jakob or Kaze.

Of course, there’s also the possibility of a random reveal like with what Koei Tecmo did with Cordelia.

In any case, the bottom line is that it was already confirmed that Fire Emblem Warriors will feature mostly Shadow Dragon, Awakening and Fates characters (though its looking more like the latter two for the time being). So even if there aren’t any more Fates characters, KT will use Awakening (or Shadow Dragon), rather than other titles to fill that void.

Fire Emblem Warriors will release for the Nintendo Switch and New 3DS on September 28 in Japan, and on October 20 in North America and Europe.
