The Viking Hatchet is a unique melee weapon in Red Dead Redemption 2.  This ancient hatchet can be found on an altar in the Old Tomb.  The Old Tomb is a location that is not on the map in Red Dead Redemption 2 but is definitely worth checking out.

The Old Tomb is located in the Roanoke Valley area of New Hanover. The Old Tomb is a star-shaped area that has several underground passages.  It’s just north of Beaver Hollow and just west of the Deer Cottage.  This area can only be seen by stumbling across it or using this guide to find it.

The hatchet can be found lodged into the skull of a skeleton on the altar.  Other than the hatchet, there isn’t much else to see at the Old Tomb. Use the map above to find the location of the Old Tomb and The Viking Hatchet.

The hatchet itself is a good melee weapon because it is a powerful melee item and it can also be thrown.  Once you’ve got the hatchet you can use it like any other melee weapon. You can equip it on the fly with the weapon wheel where the knife slot is.  Just open the weapon wheel and then use the left and right triggers on the controller to select the item.

The Viking Hatchet is a brutal melee weapon that can be used the same way the knife is.  To throw the hatchet, aim with the Left Trigger and then throw with the Right Trigger. Once you throw the hatchet you will need to go pick it back up.
