How to Beat the Corrupted Monk in Sekiro
The Corrupted Monk is an apparition that will reveal itself as you make it to the end of the strange Mibu Village area. This boss battle can be daunting at first, but once you learn his moves there it’s pretty easy to either know which attacks you can block and which ones you want to look out for. The most important thing is having some supplies for the fight to make it easier. Ako’s Sugar, Shinobi Firecracker, Pellets, are a must for this fight. Though they aren’t really necessary, they will help you out.
First of all, you can use the Firecracker to great effect here. The Monk is suceptible to the device and it will stop him in his tracks. Anytime you have an opening with the Shinobi Firecracker you should take it with the Monk. You can get in three good hits while he’s stunned, but back up as he’ll be on the attack shortly after.
Most of the Monk’s attacks can be blocked. But blocking should be used as a last resort. You’re going to want to learn which attacks have one, two, three parts to them or whether it’s his big five circle slash move. Stay away from him, and then attack after his combo is finished. Lunge in and punish him afterwards. You’ll also want to keep this boss in front of you as he has a tendency to leap in the air towards you with floaty jumping attack. Once you are comfortable with this, you can pass underneath him and attack him in the back when he lands for three hits everytime.
Check out the video below to see this strategy in action. Once you’ve beaten the Corrupted Monk you’re going to get a Sculptor’s Idol to rest at, and the path will be cleared to the Shelter Stone which is an item being sought by Lord Kuro.
