During Sony’s State of Play presentation, a brand new trailer for Mortal Kombat 11 was revealed, and it might just be the funniest trailer so far. Dubbed the “Old Skool Vs. New Skool Trailer” it shows fighters from the past and present duking it out with some awesome exchanges, as well as some corny one liners. In addition to that, three more fighters were confirmed to be playable in Mortal Kombat 11, Lui Kang, Kung Lao, and Jax.
While the reveal itself was more focused on the story mode, it was still great to see the three mentioned warriors fight for brief periods at a time. One of the snippets of Lui Kang fighting even shows him summoning a fire dragon in what could be his Fatality. We will more than likely get official gameplay trailers in the near future for each of them, hopefully sometime this week. As for the story mode aspect, the trailer shows some hilarious dialogue between fighters of both timelines.
However, the funniest part of the trailer is when the Johnny Cages collide. Johnny has changed quite a bit in terms of his priorities, having an actual family and running a military operation now, whereas his past self is an obnoxious, self indulgent, egotistical acting star. They act as foils to one another, creating awesome chemistry between the two, and it easily one of the features that we’re excited about for this game.
The roster is an ever expanding one, as Noob Saibot was revealed late last week for the game, as well as Shang Tsung being the first DLC fighter to be announced. Don’t be surprised if NetherRealm Studios shows off more of them leading up the games release, especially since the closed Beta starts this Wednesday, March 27. Mortal Kombat 11 launches on April 23 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
