The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening in many ways is a game all about questions and mystery. What is Koholint Island? How can Link escape? And how does he get to all these weird spots that the game loves to tease players with? This last question comes up a lot as you journey around the island, finding spots that you simply can’t reach until later in the game. One of the most important and mysterious is the Mermaid Statue which sits on a cliff above the Catfish Maw, the fifth dungeon in the game. Here’s how to get to the Mermaid Statue in The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening for Switch.
How To Get to the Mermaid Statue
If you’re asking this question then you probably already know where the Mermaid Statue is, but in case you don’t it’s right near the bottom of Martha’s Bay. This is the middle of the map near the bottom ocean, so head there whenever you want to check it out. It rests on a cliff above Catfish Maw, which is pretty much where you need to go to get to the Mermaid Statue itself.
Yes, you can’t just walk up to this thing, you need a special item. The hookshot to be specific. Which is found within the Catfish Maw dungeon. If you haven’t been through there yet then just keep playing the game, pushing through the main quest until you do. Once you have the hookshot you can get to this special place, though you’ll also want to work through the game’s lengthy trading sequence first as you need the Mermaid Scale before you can truly unlock this specific spot.
Once all of those things are in place, here’s how to get to the Mermaid Statue. Just head to the phone booth outside of Animal Village then walk south. Once you reach the edge continue to the left. You’ll see a gap here with boxes on both sides. Hookshot across the gap using the box on the opposite side and you can walk north and west to reach the Mermaid Statue itself. If you’re far enough in the trading sequence then you can put the Mermaid Scale back in place and open up the next part of your journey.
And that’s how to get to the Mermaid Statue in The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening remake for Nintendo Switch.
