If you feel comfortable playing sports games with face buttons, the Hybrid Control method is going to be one of the best ways to get yourself skilled, while possibly learning more about different control types available in the game.

Being able to use either the face buttons or the right stick to set up a shot is great, but having control over other options like passing with just the press of a button will allow you to get used to how the game is played. Getting comfortable with this control method will allow you to up your game in the long run by using the Skill Stick control scheme in the future.

If you want unbridled control over your player and what they’re doing, the Skill Stick control method is going to be the best option for you. Being able to essentially mimic the movements of your hockey stick with the right control stick is something that expert players love doing, and requires a great amount of skill to utilize properly.

If you’re playing with Hybrid Controls currently, there may be a few adjustments that you’ll need to make in the future if you’re planning on giving this control method a try. However, if something like this sounds like it’s out of the realm of possibility for you, the final control method is going to be the easiest to just pick up and play.

For the easiest way to just get into the game and have a bit of fun, the NHL 94 Control method is going to be one of the best ways to make this happen. Rather than needing to rely on a complicated string of button prompts to make your character do something, you’ll just have three buttons to deal with and work with.

This is going to sound very familiar to anyone that grew up in the days of the Sega Genesis, with a few added features like dekes thrown in for good measure. This way, you’ll still be able to be competitive with your friends while learning the ropes of the game in its entirety!

Now that you’re ready to get onto the ice, make sure that you’re checking into our NHL 23 Guide Section, where you’ll be able to get more information about how to celebrate a goal, what the game style slider is, and the full soundtrack and tracklist for the game!

NHL 23 is available now on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.
