How to Get Slag Deposits in God of War Ragnarok

Crafting materials are incredibly important in God of War Ragnarok, and Slag Deposits are used in countless early-game recipes that will help you get a headstart on your journey. Just like Rawhide and Forged Iron, Slag Deposits are used to create low-level gear that will be of use during the first few hours of God of War Ragnarok. More specifically, Slag Deposits are used to craft shields of all kinds until you reach a high enough level. Here’s where you can find Slag Deposits so you can craft the first set of shields in God of War Ragnarok.

Slag Deposits can be found all over the nine realms, especially in low-level areas like Svartlfheim and Alfheim. According to the in-game Codex, Slag Deposits can be found “in chests and coffins found off the beaten path.” As long as you spend some time exploring, you’ll be sure to find at least a few Slag Deposits on your travels.

There are a few chests scattered along the main story path of God of War Ragnarok, but you’ll find way more crafting materials if you stray from the intended path to search for collectibles and complete Favors. The optional content of God of War Ragnarok is incredible and adds a lot to the story — which we pointed out in our God of War Ragnarok review — and you’d be doing yourself a huge disservice if you were to skip any of it to rush through the main story.

Even though Slag Deposits are used to craft low-level shields like the Dauntless or Stonewall varieties, you may still need to use some later in the game. Even though there are a finite number of chests in the game, you can purchase an unlimited amount of Slag Deposits and other crafting materials using Hacksilver later in the game. Make sure you sell off your treasures and old gear to stock up on money so you can afford all the shiny new gear as soon as it becomes available.

God of War Ragnarok is available now on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
