One of the cooler puzzles in Resident Evil Village: Shadows of Rose is the predator puzzle located in the Gallery. The riddle seems pretty simple on paper, but the fact that you cant move a couple of the paintings makes it so you have to be more strategic. Additionally, one of the paintings is missing from the Gallery, which means you must hunt this one down to complete the puzzle to access the chest. In this guide, we will go over the exact location of the missing painting and the correct order you need to arrange the paintings so you can retrieve the chest behind bars.

How to Solve the Predator Painting Puzzle

First off, the missing painting can be located in the back room of the Guest Room on the second floor, next to the Hall of Ablution (image shown below). Keep in mind that players can only access this area if they have completed the Hall of Ablution puzzle and made their way through the basement. Otherwise, the guest room door will be locked. Once you have made your way back up from the basement, proceed to the guest room and grab the snake painting from the counter. Now, you can head back to the Gallery and complete the puzzle.

Solution

The trick here is to have all the predators on one side staring down their prey, hence the riddle. Since you can’t move the Lion painting on the right-hand side of the Butterfly painting on the left-hand side, it is safe to assume that the right side is for predators and the left side is for prey. Below is the order of paintings:

  • Across from the lion painting, put the sheep painting.
  • Next to the sheep painting, put the frog painting.
  • Across from the frog painting, put the snake painting.
  • Next to the snake painting, put the spider painting.

This will have all the predators on one side and them staring down their prey. Now you should see the gate open up, and you can now access the treasure chest! This is one of many puzzles that caused some trouble for us, and if you need help with the upcoming doll puzzle and cutting open the teddy bear, make sure to check out our guides on those as well.
