How Does Wordle Work?

Wordle is an online daily word-guessing game in which you have six tries to guess the word of the day. Each word you put into one of the six rows gives you an opportunity to guess which letters are in the word of the day.

If you get a yellow box around a letter you put into the game, it means that letter is a part of the word you are looking for, but not in the right spot within the word. Look for different words with the same letter in a different spot to find the answer to the daily Wordle.

If you get a green box, it means that the letter you put into the game was in the word and in the right spot of the word. Look for other words that have the same letter in the same spot to find the Wordle of the day.

And if you get a gray box around your letter, it means that the letter is nowhere to be found within the word you are guessing for.

Wordle is free online through the New York Times’ website. Check out some other alternatives to Wordle if you can’t get enough.
