MultiVersus Unlock Guide: How to Get Characters, Taunts, Emotes, and More

Recommended Videos

MultiVersus is the Warner Bros. version of crossover fighters like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and there are countless unlockable characters, emotes, and cosmetics that can be earned by playing the game. MultiVersus is free-to-play at its core, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t ways for you to spend money. Most cosmetic items have to be purchased, but things like characters can be acquired with free in-game currency. Here’s how to unlock every character in MultiVersus and customize the roster with taunts, emotes, ringout VFX, and more.

How to Unlock Characters in MultiVersus

To unlock new characters in MultiVersus, you have to purchase them with Gold. You can acquire Gold by completing challenges and playing matches, with more Gold being awarded for winning rather than losing. Each character costs 2000 Gold to unlock, and there are currently 5 unlockable characters available.

  • Steven Universe
  • Garnet
  • Arya Stark
  • Batman
  • Superman

Again, each of these characters requires 2000 Gold each to unlock. Once they’re unlocked, they’re available permanently. More characters are bound to be added to the roster as MultiVersus grows, so this list will be updated later down the line.

All Unlockable Skins

Like most multiplayer games, MultiVersus features special skins called variants for each of its characters. Each of them is listed below along with the method required to unlock them.

  • Uncle Shagworthy (Shaggy): Battle Pass Premium Tier 1
  • Bougie (Bugs Bunny): Battle Pass Premium Tier 20
  • Pirates (Tom & Jerry): Battle Pass Premium Tier 35
  • Task Force X (Harley Quinn): Battle Pass Premium Tier 44
  • Samurai (Batman): Battle Pass Free Tier 50
  • Cake (Jake): Battle Pass Premium Tier 50
  • Summertime Taz (Taz): Reach Taz Mastery Level 13

These are just the skins available during the game’s closed alpha, and more variants will be added as the game gets closer to launch. The premium version of the Battle Pass is available for free at the moment, so all variants can be acquired without spending any money.

All Unlockable Ringout VFX

MultiVersus even lets you customize your ringout VFX, and there are some really interesting ones that are sure to get in your opponents’ heads after a knockout. Each of them is listed below.

  • That’s All Folks: Battle Pass Premium Tier 2
  • Omega Beam: Battle Pass Premium Tier 7
  • FP’s Burning Love: Battle Pass Premium Tier 25
  • Spike’s Bite: Battle Pass Premium Tier 38
  • Shazam!: Battle Pass Free Tier 40
  • Space Kook: Battle Pass Premium Tier 43
  • Jelly Bean: Battle Pass Premium Tier 48

These are all cool, but the highlights are That’s All Folks and Spike’s Bite, which both utilize that classic Looney Tunes animation style.

All Unlockable Taunts

There are several unlockable taunts that can be equipped for each character in addition to their default taunt. Here’s how to get all of them.

  • Weight Lifting (Wonder Woman): Battle Pass Premium Tier 4
  • Star Struck (Steven Universe): Battle Pass Premium Tier 9
  • Dance (Bugs Bunny): Battle Pass Premium Tier 13
  • Kung Fu (Shaggy): Battle Pass Premium Tier 17
  • Tiny Car (Garnet): Battle Pass Premium Tier 26
  • Ballet (Jake): Battle Pass Premium Tier 30
  • Nunchucks (Shaggy): Battle Pass Premium Tier 39
  • Dancy (Velma): Battle Pass Premium Tier 46
  • She Devil Howl (Taz): Reach Taz Mastery Level 5

Remember, taunts are specific to each character. If you want something that can be used with every fighter, then you’ll need to look to emotes instead.

All Unlockable Emotes

Emote are animated icons that can be used by every character in MultiVersus. They feature all of the characters in the game, so you can represent your favorite franchise even without playing a character from it. Here’s how to get them all.

  • Wink (Jake): Battle Pass Premium Tier 3
  • Mad (Arya): Battle Pass Premium Tier 16
  • Hungry (Shaggy): Battle Pass Premium Tier 24
  • Cool (Garnet): Battle Pass Premium Tier 31
  • Crazy (Harley): Battle Pass Premium Tier 37

Remember, despite featuring specific characters, these emotes can be used with any fighter in the game.

While they’re the least exciting of the bunch, there are still plenty of profile icons and banners to unlock in MultiVersus. Some of them are even pretty cool. Here’s how to unlock all of them.
