Zarude in Pokémon GO

Pokémon GO: How to Get Zarude

Recommended Videos

Zarude is now obtainable for a limited time in Pokémon Go thanks to the ‘Secrets of the Jungle‘ event, which celebrates the new animated Pokémon movie of the same name. Zarude is a Grass/Dark-type mythical Pokémon and a prominent character in the film, launching globally on Netflix on October 8, 2021. Read on to find out how to get Zarude in Pokémon GO!

How to get Zarude in Pokémon GO

Players can catch Zarude by completing the ‘Search for Zarude!’ Special Research, which can be started simply by logging into Pokémon GO between October 1 2021 at 10 am – October 10 at 8 pm local time. Although the research is only obtainable between these dates, the research can be completed at any time once started. The Special Research is 5 pages long, with 3 tasks on each page. The 5th page’s tasks are automatically completed, however.

Pokémon GO: Search for Zarude Special Research Tasks

Page 1

  • Catch 7 Different Species of Pokémon – 1x Sun Stone
  • Catch 7 Pokémon – Diglett encounter
  • Take 3 Snapshots of wild Ground-type Pokémon – 15x Pokéballs

Page completion rewards: 250x Stardust, 10x Nanab berries & a Drilbur encounter

The first step is very simple, catch any Pokémon you see until you reach the total of 7 different species caught, which will naturally complete the ‘Catch 7 Pokémon’ task. Diglett is the reward for this task, so make sure to take 3 snapshots when encountering it by tapping the camera icon at the top of the screen. If you forgot to take snapshots of Diglett, don’t worry, there are plenty of ground type Pokémon spawning in the wild, such as Drilbur.

  • Make 5 Great Throws in a row – 5x Pinap Berries
  • Catch 10 Bug-type Pokémon – Dwebble encounter
  • Take 3 snapshots of wild Bug-type Pokémon – 10x Great Balls

Page completion rewards: 250x Stardust, 10x Razz berries & a Combee encounter

Great Throws can be obtained by throwing a Pokéball directly at the colored inner-circle when it’s around half the size of the outer-circle. You’ll need to successfully perform 6 Great Throws in a row to complete the task, with misses, normal and nice throws breaking the streak. Excellent throws, which are when the inner circle is at its smallest, will not break the streak, as they are considered a harder target to hit. Bug-type Pokémon are very regularly spawning during the ‘Secrets of the Jungle’ event and include Combee and Dwebble.

  • Use 20 berries to help catch Pokémon – Sunny Cherrim encounter
  • Catch 30 Grass- or Bug-type Pokémon – Vileplume encounter
  • Take 3 snapshots of wild Grass-type Pokémon – 10x Great Balls

Page completion rewards: 500x Stardust, 10x Pinap Berries & a Nuzleaf encounter

30 Grass- or Bug-type Pokémon can sound daunting, but the majority of Pokémon spawning during this event are Grass- or Bug-type, meaning you’ll complete this task in no time. Make sure to pair each capture with a berry to complete the ‘Use 20 berries’ task at the same time. It’s worth noting that said task doesn’t actually require you to catch the Pokémon, you can simply tap on a Pokémon, feed it a berry and run and still receive progress.

Step 4

  • Defeat 6 Team GO Rocket Grunts – Ariados encounter
  • Catch 15 Pokémon with Weather Boost – Butterfree encounter
  • Take 3 snapshots of wild Flying-type Pokémon – 10x Ultra Balls

Page completion rewards: 500x Stardust, 1x Poffin & a Rufflet encounter

Team GO Rocket Grunts can be battled by spinning black Pokéstops or by tapping Rocket Balloons that spawn above the player in 6-hour intervals. Team GO Rocket leaders will not progress the quest, so unequip your Rocket Radar in your bag if you only want to encounter Grunts from Balloons. You can tap the weather icon in the top right of the screen to see what Pokémon types are currently Weather Boosted. Weather Boosted Pokémon are stronger, appear more frequently and reward bonus Stardust when caught. For the final task, Hoothoot is a regularly spawning Flying-type during the event

Step 5 – How to Get Zarude in Pokémon GO

There are no tasks required for the final step; claim the auto-completed 1000 XP tasks and you’ll finally be awarded an encounter with Zarude! Catch Zarude in the same way you would catch any other Pokémon and you will have completed the ‘Search for Zarude’ Special Research. You will also receive 10 extra Zarude candy and 1000x Stardust. Zarude cannot be shiny, nor can it be traded, as is the general rule for Mythical Pokémon caught via Special Research.
