While longtime players have seen its arrival a few times before, it’s always fun when Lugia returns to Pokémon GO raids. This time, with his return for the Season of Mischief in September 2021, there’s an extra bonus in that he will feature his Aeroblast signature move. But he will only be available for a short time, so you’ll want to have all of the best Lugia raid counters ready and know how to beat Lugia in September 2021.
Lugia Raid Guide
In this Lugia raid guide we break down everything you need to know about how to beat Lugia in September 2021. And of course, the most important key to victory is having the very best Lugia counters in Pokémon GO.
The Best Lugia Counters – September 2021
Here are the very best Lugia counters in Pokémon GO for September 2021. Obviously if you’ve been playing for a while you probably already have a solid team of counters setup. However, a lot has changed since the last time this Legendary bird flew into Pokémon GO. So check out the current best counters and form your team appropriately.
|Pokémon||Fast Attack||Charged Attack|
|Zekrom||Charge Beam||Wild Charge|
|Thundurus (Therian)||Volt Switch||Thunderbolt|
|Giratina (Origin)||Shadow Claw||Shadow Ball|
|Rhyperior||Smack Down||Rock Wrecker|
|Galarian Darmanitan||Ice Fang||Avalanche|
|Rampardos||Smack Down||Rock Slide|
Along with these you will want to use Shadow Pokémon if you have them with the right moveset. We recommend Shadow Raikou or Electivire with Thunder Shock and Wild Charge, Shadow Zapdos with Thunder Shock and Thunerbolt, or Shadow Mamoswine with Powder Snow and Avalanche. For your Mega evolution, if you choose to use one, we recommend Mega Gengar with Lick and Shadow Ball.
Once you form your team you’re almost ready to go. Keep reading our Lugia raid guide for more info and tips.
When do Lugia Raids Begin and End in September 2021
Lugia will be returning to Legendary raids on Wednesday, September 1st at 10am local time. You’ll then have just about two full weeks to do battle against them, as they will leave on Tuesday, September 14th at 10am local time to make way for either Uxie, Mesprit, or Azelf, depending on your region.
How Many Players to Beat Lugia
Lugia has always been on of the tankier Legendary raid bosses in Pokémon GO, meaning you likely will need a larger team than you might expect. Of course, a solid team of three high level trainers, with powerful counters, and bonuses such as being best friends can accomplish the task. For most though we would recommend five players at the very least, and the more you have available to fight the better.
How to Catch Shiny Lugia, Can Lugia be Shiny in September 2021
Yes, Lugia can be shiny in September 2021 meaning players will likely want to join these raids whether they’ve caught them before or not. As far as how to catch Shiny Lugia in Pokémon GO, the only way is to win as many raids as you can. There will be two raid hours on Wednesday, September 1st and the 8th from 6pm to 7pm so that is a great chance to get a bunch of battles in and roll the dice. The odds are typically around one in twenty for a Legendary raid, but those are unofficial. The more you win, the higher the chance to catch Shiny Lugia so make your team and good luck.
